Each employer has a legal duty to ensure that all staff are adequately trained in the work they have been asked to do and are competent in health and safety terms to ensure the work is carried out safely.

The courses that JSL Consultancy offer are accredited by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) meaning they are written and delivered by professionals in this field of work who also have the relevant experience.

CIEH courses are subject to audits and validation visits by CIEH to ensure consistency. Certificates are awarded for successful completion of the course.

Courses

CIEH Level 2 Award in Health and Safety in the Workplace

This is an accredited qualification that can be tailored to your business and individual needs to make the learning experience relevant and fit for purpose. The qualification covers the following topics:

Legislation
Health
Safety
Welfare
The workplace and work equipment
Risk assessment
Manual handling
Hazardous substances
Ergonomics and work station design
Transport and vehicles
Noise and vibration

The duration of this course is for one day with a multiple choice examination at the end and is relevant to all staff. The course costs £100.00 per person, minimum of 5, maximum of 15.

CIEH Intermediate Certificate in Supervising Health and Safety

Supervisors have both a legal and moral responsibility to look after the health and safety of employees. This qualification will enable managers and supervisors to improve the health and safety culture of their organisation, whatever its size or activity.

The qualification covers the following topics:

Concept of health and safety
Accidents in the workplace
Ill health in the workplace
Legal provisions (UK only)
Health and safety organisation and management
Supervising health and safety

This is a 3 day course with a multiple choice examination at the end and is relevant to all those that have a supervisory or managerial role. The course costs £700.00 per person minimum of 5, maximum of 12.

CIEH Level 3 Award in Risk Assessment Principles and Practice

Employers and the self-employed have a legal duty to assess health and safety risks. Anyone carrying out a risk assessment needs to have the necessary knowledge and skills. This qualification ensures that supervisors and managers have the necessary depth of understanding to enable them to carry out risk assessments.

The qualification covers the following topics:

Legislation
Principles of risk assessment
Prioritising risk
Controls
Documentation
Monitoring controls
Risk assessment in practice

This is a 1 day course with an assignment to be completed in the person’s own time and is relevant to all those who are responsible for conducting risk assessments. The course costs £100.00 per person, minimum of 5, maximum of 15.

CIEH Principles of Manual Handling

This qualification introduces people to the hazards and risks involved in manual handling and outlines what to expect from a manual handling assessment. It will enable employees to develop safer manual handling techniques in the workplace. This course is tailored to your businesses individual needs.

The qualification covers the following topics:

The process of manual handling in the workplace
Manual handling injuries and the activities which cause them
Manual handling assessment and control options
Responsibilities imposed by the Manual Handling Operations Regulations

This is a two hour session with a multiple choice examination at the end which can be run in house in groups of up to 10. This qualification costs £60.00 per person. A maximum of 3 sessions can be run in one day.

Fire Safety Training

Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 employers are legally obliged to provide fire training. JSL consultancy offers two types of fire safety training:

Fire Awareness training: All staff would benefit from this training. It is a two hour session which can be run in house in groups of up to 10. Each session costs £350.00. A maximum of 3 sessions can be run in one day.
Fire Warden training: Every employer is obliged to have a number of fire wardens/marshals as determined by the fire risk assessment. Staff nominated as fire wardens/marshals or with a fire designated responsibility would benefit from this training. In house courses for up to 10 persons cost £700.00

Certificates are awarded for all fire safety training courses.

Fire training can be organised as part of a package with the fire risk assessment.

National Certificate for Personal Licence Holders

This course is provided at Brighton or can be provided in-house, to suit your needs. The cost of this course is £150 per person or £140 if paid in advance or on the day of the course. This covers everything including the BIIAB handbook, light refreshments including a lunch and the BIAB exam fees.

Alternatively a course takes place at Regent Hall, 275 Oxford Street, London (2 minutes walk from Oxford Circus tube station). Places for this course can be booked by e-mail or telephone (020 8677 1775) asking for David Chambers. Courses start at 9 a.m. and finish at the end of the multiple choice exam around 5 p.m. The courses are taken by either David Chambers or Julia Sawyer.

National Certificate for Licensing Practitioners

This course is provided at Brighton and London or can be provided in-house, to suit your needs. The cost of this course is £190 per person or £180 if paid in advance or on the day of the course. This covers everything including the BIIAB handbook, light refreshments including a lunch and the BIIAB exam fees.
